Mrs Chalker. All the Euratom Treaty obligations have been met.

In the northern part of the North Sea tens of thousands of tonnes of herring are not being taken by the Federal Republic of Germany because the price of her ring is too low.

I am not aware how many countries outside the Community make such imports.

I should like to answer Mr Bowe's question.

COLLINS. Ireland has had a number of problems relating to crossfrontier shopping in the past.

CASSIDY (PPE). I am partially encouraged by that answer to the question, but discouraged by the first part of the answer.

Lord Cockfield. Might I give the Honourable Member a proper reply in writing? The committee does meet quite frequently, as is illustrated by the fact that it held one discussion in November and is going to hold another discussion in January.

We have reduced the size of the Libyan People's bureaus and agreed other measures.

Mrs Chalker. The Euratom Treaty is quite separate from the responsibilities of the IAEA.

LANE (RDE). Just a very quick comment.

ANDRIESSEN. (NL) The first question was does the Commission take this problem seriously ?

HUME (S). Mr President, I would like to put a question to the Commissioner.

Mr Posselt, the short answer to your question is no.

We believe it would be a good thing in this case for Parliament to involve itself and try to persuade the Council to come to a conclusion at last.

Member States. If the Community were to act it would require Community legislation.

Surely it is most important that the European Community should try to get something done here through the UN ?
